At Limerick Physio Rooms, we sometimes use Dry Needling as part of a Physiotherapy treatment. It is a highly effective method for targeting areas that are difficult or painful to treat with hands alone. Dry Needling is particularly useful for smaller muscles, deep muscles, or muscles that are hard to access using traditional techniques.
Dry Needling uses fine acupuncture-style needles to release trigger points within the muscle and increase blood flow to the affected area. Trigger points are tight “knots” in muscles that can cause local pain, referred pain, or restricted movement.
Think of a kink in a hose. Normally, you might squeeze the hose to release the kink. If that does not work, inserting a needle can restore the flow. Similarly, Dry Needling helps muscles relax, improving blood flow and allowing them to function normally again.
Although Dry Needling uses acupuncture needles, it is completely different from traditional acupuncture. The treatment is focused solely on muscle recovery and pain relief rather than traditional acupuncture energy pathways.
When combined with a full Physiotherapy session, Dry Needling can significantly speed up recovery, reduce pain, and improve muscle function. Used on its own, recovery may take longer, so it is most effective as part of a tailored treatment plan.

Dry Needling can be very effective for a wide range of conditions, including:
When used in combination with other physio treatments in Limerick, Dry Needling can reduce recovery time, improve mobility, and enhance the overall effectiveness of your rehabilitation program.
